BlacKkKlansman

I’m gearing up for the Golden Globes, watching nominated movies I missed in 2018.  BlacKkKlansman has excellent buzz, critical acclaim, and great word of mouth.  I was excited.  Could this be the year that Spike Lee finally gets the critical acclaim he deserves?

BlacKkKlansman is absolutely worth seeing.  First off, it is a great story.  Adam Driver is one of the most enjoyable actors working these days, and his performance, as usual, was fantastic.  The soundtrack is wonderful, stream it if you can, great deep tracks.  The costume design and sets are suitably seventies.  The parallels between racism during that time period and today are sharply and deftly drawn.

But I was confused by parts of the plot, and also confused a bit by the inconsistent visual style of the movie.  I don’t really want to get into the specific details since spoilers would ensue, but, while the movie is meaningful and well done, it doesn’t come together as much as it should given its powerhouse plot.
